Jay’s Story – A Journey of Strength and Hope Jay came into the care of Our Time To Shine in October 2020, following a rare and serious heart episode. At the time, she was considered palliative, and her family were preparing for what they believed would be her final camping trip. But something remarkable happened. Jay returned from that trip with unexpected strength and determination. From that moment on, our team worked closely with Jay and her family to support her rehabilitation—step by step, with compassion and care. • Jay was expected to be tube-fed for life But with the unwavering support of her aunt and our dedicated care companions, Jay relearned how to swallow. • ️ Today, she enjoys a wide variety of foods No longer reliant on a feeding tube, Jay’s progress has been truly remarkable. • Her laughter is contagious Her vibrant personality continues to shine through, lighting up every room she enters. • From palliative to thriving In just over six months, Jay was no longer classified as palliative and is now on a long, hopeful road to recovery. It has been an absolute honour to walk alongside Jay on her journey. Living with Down syndrome, Steven brings joy and energy to every moment—and his journey is a powerful testament to thriving through passion, support, and independence.
